Hi Everyone!

I've always wanted to go and visit Greece. I have such a fascination and affinity for the ancient culture, god, myths, and actual real life legends.

Athens... simply exceeded my already high expectations. The Acropolis was stunning. There is rich history and story seemingly on every street corner and hill top.

I learned something that may or may not be obvious to most people - they mix their Ancient Greek letters in with mostly the rest of the roman alphabet and you have to pronounce them. Example: ATHENS in Greek is actually ΑΘΗΝΑ, which is Alpha (ahh), Theta (th.), Eta (ee), Nu (nn), Alpha (ahh). Put it all together you get ahhtheennahh = Athena = Athens. Confused yet? But then what looks like letter P is actually Rho pronounced as letter R. Anyway... my love of all things Math has given me a strong knowledge of these Greek letters, and so I was laughing and a little impressed with myself that I could guess my way into the right sounds of the symbols and then put those sounds together and then the answer would pop into making sense - kind of like the Mad Gab game if you've ever played it.

Friendliest and most out of there way helpful people thus far on my trip can be found here in Greece. Be it hostel reception, subway ticket person, or just a stranger in the street - everyone goes out of their way to look after tourists. Yes even the Americans too :).

The sunsets are amazing. I think the red dust blowing in from the Sahara desert was actually helping them to be so striking.

Prices for entry to places felt fair and not like a money grab (Istanbul felt a bit grabby by contrast).

Stray cats are EVERYWHERE.

I tried some moussaka, it was pretty good.

Going to try and have a few more frequent yet maybe a little shorter videos for the next few posts and I am going on a bit of a fast paced tour through some of the Greek islands.

Next up though is my day trip inland to Delphi (ancient centre of Greece), To a cave of wonder, and to the battlefields of Thermopylae where King Leonidas and the brave 300 defended all of Greece from the Persians.

Let me know what you think of the video and I hope everything is doing well!

Eric
